The Toronto Blue Jays has reached a 14-year extension deal worth $500 million with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on Sunday.
This contract stands as the highest-paid deal in franchise annals exceeding the $150-million, six-year agreement which George Springer reached upon becoming a free agent during January 2021.
“My aspiration goes beyond winning a World Series crown for Toronto because I aim to develop my skills while remaining a dependable offensive asset for the team and earning fan iration,” Guerrero said.
“I believe in the future of the Blue Jays reaching their highest competition level and I am dedicated to participate in achieving these goals.” Guerrero added.
Guerrero remains in his current contract term’s last year before it expires. The absence of a contract extension would have let Guerrero enter free agency during the fall.
Multiple sources revealed that the Blue Jays extended a deal worth between $400-$450 million to Guerrero during early March.
Sources believed that Blue Jays extended another monetary proposal following the initial report of their first offer.
Throughout his career Guerrero became a four-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger winner establishing his place in baseball history with his 2021 record-breaking 48 home runs while earning numerous MVP votes for multiple seasons.
“Winning the World Series with Toronto stands as my main goal. Each member of the team pursues this same objective,” Guerrero said.
“I intend to guide this team through exemplary leadership both between the bases and beyond them on the field.” he added.
Over the last few years the Blue Jays organisation has pursued major baseball stars with great determination.
Professional sports in North America witnessed the most dramatic free-agent g process during recent years with Shohei Ohtani at its start. The Blue Jays secured Juan Soto followed by Roki Sasaki along with other additions.
The Blue Jays have started using their big-market financial power to sign talent because their nation-wide fan base stands as baseball’s sole international force and thus resulted in success.
