Ruben Amorim confirmed that he will not resign from his position as Manchester United coach. However, he is ready to be fired if he no longer has the trust of the club’s management.
Amorim’s statement came after Manchester United lost 0-1 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, Thursday (22/5) early morning WIB.
“I have nothing to prove to the ers, so right now I only have a little confidence,” said Amorim.
“But, let’s see. I’m always open to all possibilities. If the board of directors and the fans feel that I’m not the right coach, I will leave without discussing compensation. But I will not step down,” said Amorim.
The Portuguese coach still has a two year contract at Old Trafford. He is still confident that he can bring change to the Red Devils.
However, he is willing to accelerate his work period if he no longer has the trust of the club.
Failure in the Europa League final completes Amorim’s minor record in Manchester this season. Failed to present a trophy and unable to lift the Red Devils from the bottom of the table.
Talk of Amorim’s dismissal has been widespread on the internet because Manchester United is experiencing one of the worst seasons in the club’s history. Not only is there no trophy this season, The Red Devils are also in the lowest position in the standings since 1978.
Manchester United is currently languishing in 16th place in the Premier League standings with one match remaining. Meanwhile, Tottenham is one level below Manchester United.
Tottenham also managed to end their long trophy drought. The last time Spurs appeared as champions was in the 2008 English League Cup, aka 17 years ago.
On the other hand, this is Tottenham’s third title in the Europa League. Previously, they successfully won two other titles in the 1972 and 1984 editions when it was still called the UEFA Cup.
Amorim came in the middle of this season to replace Erik Ten Hag who was fired in October 2024.
