Tech3 KTM rider Danilo Petrucci started on a new adventure in the premier class at the 2021 MotoGP season. The Italian signed a one-year deal with the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer who then moved him to Tech3 KTM Factory Racing.
Now that the first half of the 2021 MotoGP season is over, it seems that his contract will not be extended at the end of 2021 season and there will be no place for Petrucci in the premier class in 2022.
“I’m doing my best and taking my time on vacation, I know I couldn’t do more. I don’t know if it will be enough though.” Petrucci said.
“The thing that amuses me the most in my life is riding a motorcycle, whether it’s a MotoGP machine or an Enduro bike, it’s the same.
“There is no deadline in my contract, a day for them to decide. We haven’t talked yet, but they’re getting to know me and they know what I’m doing.
“I want to talk to them because I am the first to it that I would have liked to be more competitive. But for this I need their help.” Petrucci added.
Ahead of the 2022 season, Petrucci has confirmed that he wanted to compete in 2021 with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing duo Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira. However, it has turned out very differently so far.
While KTM recently announced the arrival of Remy Gardner as a rider for Tech3 KTM Factory Racing and behind the scenes work is underway to bring current Moto2 rider Raul Fernandez into the KTM team.
“In the race I often manage to make up for a few positions, but the real problem is and remains the qualification.” Petrucci said.
“In Assen I was able to make up a few places from eighteenth on the grid, but if you lose a second per lap in the first laps it will be a difficult story to score another top position in the current MotoGP standings.” Petrucci added.
