Manchester City has officially announced that they have extended the contract of coach Pep Guardiola until 2027.
With this new contract extension, Guardiola is expected to coach Rodri and his friends for up to 11 seasons since he first ed the blue Manchester.
“Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract extension with Manchester City,” the club said on its official website, Thursday (11/21).
Guardiola’s contract extension also ends speculation about his future at Man City ending soon. At the start of the 2024/2025 season, several parties said that the former Brescia player would leave the Man City coaching chair in the summer of 2025.
This contract extension could also be a breath of fresh air for the Man City squad, because they are currently in a bad trend because they have experienced four consecutive defeats in all competitions.
“I feel like I can’t leave now, it’s that simple,” Guardiola said, quoted by AFP, Thursday (11/21/2024).
“Don’t ask me why. Maybe four defeats are the reason and I feel like I can’t leave. I feel like the club still wants me or has the fact that we are together and that’s why we signed the contract,” he explained.
Guardiola added that he is happy to be at Man City and loves his job.
“I have said many times since many years ago, when I will not have that feeling, even under contract, I will call my chairman and CEO and say the best for the club at the moment is that I have to leave,” said Guardiola.
“I don’t have that feeling at the moment and that’s why I extended the contract a little longer,” he added.
The Catalan coach won many trophies with The Cityzens. In total, so far Guardiola has presented 18 trophies for the Manchester club, including six Premier League titles and one Champions League.
Under his stewardship, City also became the first team in league history to achieve 100 points in a single season, in 2017/18, and the first team in English football to win all four domestic trophies in 2018/19.
