Ducati racer Marc Marquez is reluctant to boast that he will win the 2025 MotoGP United States because he re the bad incident in the 2019 season.
Marquez was nicknamed the ‘Sheriff of COTA’ because he was very dominant at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), which hosted the MotoGP United States.
COTA has historically been Marquez’s territory. However, in the 2019 season, his perfect record in Austin was dramatically stopped. When he was about to achieve his seventh consecutive victory, The Baby Alien had an accident while comfortably leading the race.
Now, Marquez is facing the same situation. After dominating and sweeping victories at MotoGP Thailand and Argentina, Marquez is again favored to win the MotoGP United States 2025.
However, Marquez is reluctant to be arrogant. The 32-year-old racer does not want the incident in the 2019 MotoGP season to happen again because he has excessive self-confidence.
“Obviously we started the season in the best way. And the most important thing is that every practice, every session, I feel the bike, I feel the limit. I feel comfortable. Also very good with the team. Every time the connection is getting better.”
“But we have to stay focused, fully concentrated. Because for example in my best season in MotoGP in 2019, the only circuit where I made a mistake was here [COTA]. So, I will focus and try to do my best during the weekend,” added Marquez.
Last season Marc Marquez actually led the race at the United States MotoGP. However, he fell on lap 10 while he was ahead of Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta.
Entering the 2025 United States MotoGP, Marquez is at the top of the standings with a 16-point advantage over his younger brother who strengthens Gresini, Alex. Marquez itted that he was aware that many people wanted him to win again at COTA.
“I know that the expectations are getting higher for each race, and that doesn’t help to calm myself down. So for that reason, I [mention] the 2019 season, because COTA was the only circuit where I made a mistake,” Marquez said.
“I try to think negatively to avoid overconfidence that can create situations that we don’t like. So let’s see how we start, let’s see where our rivals are, and from that point try to do the best,” Marquez added.
