Jorge Martin to Miss Argentina Grand Prix Due to Left Hand Injury 4w6a48

Aprilia Racing Team rider Jorge Martin must miss next month’s Argentina Grand Prix due to breaking his hand during training activities.

According to MotoGP doctor Angel Charte the process of Martin recovering from his left hand fracture showed slow progression.

“Martin is in high spirits. As always, he is a very vital man. What worries us most is that the scaphoid consolidates perfectly.” Charte said.

“In principle, both Dr Xavier Mir and I spoke with him, and for the moment he won’t be in Thailand for sure, and neither will he be in Argentina.” Charte added.

The opening day of Malaysian testing started with Martin breaking his right hand and left foot when he experienced a highside crash on February 5.

The right-hand surgery took precedence at Barcelona as the doctor operated on it but his left-foot needed no medical procedure and was expected to heal before the start of the new season.

The former Pramac Ducati rider injured his left hand when riding a supermoto bike before his flight to Thailand on the Monday.

The medical update provided by Aprilia revealed Martin sustained three injuries in the accident: a complex radius fracture along with multiple carpal bone damage to the left wrist and a similar fracture of the left heel bone which was operated on Tuesday.

Martin will need to wait until at least the third race of the season at the United States GP in Austin on March 30 to start his Aprilia racing career.

“We will see what happens in Austin. It’s an issue that we have to look at little by little,” Charte said.

“The recovery is not fast, it’s a slow recovery, because if it doesn’t heal well and doesn’t have a good fracture callus, it can have collateral effects in the medium and long term. We’ll probably do a test before going to Texas and we’ll see what’s what.” he added.
