Jadon Sancho will not train with the Manchester United squad amid his public spat with coach Erik ten Hag, the club announced Thursday.
Manchester United issued a statement saying Sancho would train “away from the first-team group pending resolution of squad disciplinary issues” after the 23-year-old publicly questioned Ten Hag’s reasons for leaving him on the bench for the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.
Sancho will not be included in the squad for the game against Brighton on Saturday, and there is no time limit on his return.
A club statement issued on Thursday read: “Jadon Sancho will remain on a personal training program away from the first team pending a resolution of squad disciplinary issues.”
Sancho was punished for his response to Ten Hag’s claim that he was not selected for the trip to the Emirates before the international break due to his poor performance in training.
At that time, Ten Hag answered that Sancho was not chosen for tactical reasons. According to him, the 23-year-old winger failed to convince the Dutch tactician during training, so he was not included in the team selection.
However, not long after the interview appeared to the public, Sancho issued a statement on social media, denying all of Ten Hag’s conversations. He itted that he always trains hard, and believes that there is a non-technical reason behind dropping his name.
Ten Hag himself remained firm in his stance and did not respond further to Sancho’s words. The player also recently deleted his statement, which was posted at the top (pinned post).
The Dutchman’s comments after the match were branded “completely untrue” by Sancho in a post on social media site X, formerly Twitter.
The England forward, who returned to Carrington on Monday, finally deleted the post on Tuesday, more than a week after it was posted.
Sancho’s decision to delete the post was seen as a positive step, according to sources close to the club.
The decision to drop the England striker will further reduce Ten Hag’s options when Brighton visits Old Trafford.
The United manager will also be without Brazilian winger Antony, who has been given leave amid allegations of abusive behavior by three women.
