Liverpool achieved a crucial victory in the continuation of the 2024/2025 Premier League. Facing Brentford, The Reds won with a score of 2-0.
Liverpool’s two winning goals were presented by substitute Darwin Nunez at the end of the second half.
Thanks to this victory, Liverpool are now increasingly solid at the top of the standings with 50 points. Meanwhile, Brentford had to be satisfied with being stuck in 11th place with 28 points.
Playing at the G Tech Community Stadium, Brentford as the host tried to take the initiative to attack first.
Only five minutes in, Brentford almost scored a goal if Roerslev’s perfect could have been reached by Damsgaard who was not guarded by Liverpool’s defense.
However, slowly but surely, Liverpool began to dominate the match and turned to attack the home team’s goal. In the 19th minute, Mark Flekken was forced to make a save to stop Ryan Gravenberch’s low shot.
Liverpool continued to launch attacks on Brentford’s goal. However, The Bees played compactly and disciplined so that Liverpool had difficulty creating clear opportunities.
In the 35th minute, Dominik Szoboszlai almost scored a goal with his hard kick which unfortunately hit Brentford’s crossbar. The score remained 0-0 until halftime.
Entering the second half, the course of the match did not change much. Liverpool dominated possession and Brentford chose to play pragmatically.
In the 62nd minute, Liverpool again created a dangerous opportunity through Luis Diaz’s shot which was again stopped by Mark Flakken.
Realizing that his team was at a deadlock, Arne Slot made a number of changes. Andy Robertson and Darwin Nunez were brought in to replace Kostas Tsimikas and Luis Diaz.
These two players had a positive impact on Liverpool. Because both of them really appeared to threaten The Bees’ goal.
In injury time, Liverpool’s tireless efforts finally paid off. Darwin Nunez managed to take advantage of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pull from the right side and then he put the ball into a goal. The score changed to 1-0 for the away team’s advantage.
Liverpool soon doubled their lead to 2-0. Through a counter-attack, Federico Chiesa gave a through ball to Darwin Nunez, then the striker gave one touch and fired a shot that went into the Brentford goal.
