Now, the world number 145 tennis player is racing against time to get back in shape in time for the prestigious event every four years which will be held this year.

Speaking to the BNP Paribas Open website, the Canadian tennis player talked about returning to training and what his targets are in the next few weeks.

“The last seven, eight months have been crazy since I played my last match in August,” said Bianca Andreescu.

“For sure I have been dealing with a back injury, but it has now recovered. I’ve basically started back training, there’s no rush because I don’t want to make it worse.”

“The Olympics will be held this year. It will be my first Olympics, so I want to be able to compete in that event. we do it step by step. The reason why I play tennis is because I really enjoy competing.”

“Obviously it’s great to be here, but I want to play. But I feel much better, now I have recovered. I can play again and now my target is the French Open. I have been practicing on clay.”

These are all positive signs for fans of the Canadian as he looks set to make a big impact when he returns. n3y4k

However, Andreescu fans should view this optimism with caution, because the 2019 US Open champion explained, “I started training about a month ago and not yet, I’m not really ready to start practicing in sets.”

“We hope in the next two or three weeks that I can start increasing my training. Right now, my main focus is rebuilding my back and fitness, so that when I start doing points, I won’t have any problems. We want to make training as difficult as possible so that when I start competing again, the matches are very easy. It’s gradual.”

Andreescu will hope to be fully fit for the Olympics with tennis kicking off on July 27 and being held at Roland Garros, venue of the French Open.
