Next up for Aston Villa is away. They face Newcastle (26/12/2024). Meanwhile, Man City are at home. They host Everton (26/12/2024).

The game started at a high intensity, with Duran forcing a low save from Ortega in the first 20 seconds, and from the resulting corner, the goalkeeper again denied Torres’ header which hit the crossbar.

City looked to find space down the left, with Grealish looking the better of Cash. However, despite dominating possession, the visitors failed to create meaningful chances. Villa then punished their lapses in the 16th minute. Tielemans received the ball from Martinez, then sent a brilliant through ball that split the City back line. Rogers, who was free without a marker, chose to provide a perfect to Duran, who easily scored his 7th Premier League goal of the season.

City almost equalized when Foden forced Martinez into a brilliant save ten minutes before the break. However, that was the only meaningful chance for the visitors.

In the second half, Aston Villa added to the visitors’ misery. Rogers scored his second goal for his team with a low shot into the bottom right corner, making City even more depressed. This goal came from clever work between Tielemans and McGinn, after Rogers had previously managed to escape Kovacic’s guard.

McGinn sent a perfect to Rogers, who the former City player converted into a goal with a hard shot past Ortega. The goal was Rogers’ fifth goal in the Premier League this season. It was also his first goal since December 4, 2024 against Brentford.

City finally scored through Foden in injury time. Savinho showed his incredible direct style of play, cutting in and dribbling down the right side of the Aston Villa defence. He ed to Foden, whose initial shot bounced off Lucas Digne. However, Foden made no mistake about it, slamming the ball into the bottom right corner to score his first Premier League goal of the season.

Unfortunately for City, they didn’t have enough time to score a second goal to secure at least a point from this match.
