Anthony Sinisuka Ginting failed to advance to the final of the 2024 Hong Kong Open after losing to Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen men’s singles, Saturday (14/9).
Competing at the Hong Kong Coliseum, Ginting had to it Axelsen’s superiority with scores of 9-21 and 19-21.
Ginting actually got a breath of fresh air at the beginning of the game and managed to grab the first point through a cross drop shot that made Axelsen lose his footing. However, Axelsen responded quickly and turned around to take an 8-1 lead.
One of Axelsen’s best moments came when the lead was 7-1. He had fallen but Axelsen’s return of the ball rolled in the net and even failed to be returned by Ginting.
Ginting tried to close the gap but Axelsen was too strong and was able to maintain an 11-4 lead in the first game interval.
Ginting’s efforts to catch up are getting more difficult because he often releases his own blows and makes his own mistakes. The first game was dominated by Axelsen with a landslide score of 21-9.
Ginting tried to appear calmer in the second game but the Indonesia men’s singles attack was able to be silenced by Axelsen. Ginting was also behind 3-11 in the middle of the match.
After the break, Ginting tried to change the strategy by playing more offensively. However, Axelsen was really tough and was able to control the match until it was 20-13 ahead.
Ginting had made the match fierce again after being able to cut the gap to one point adrift, 19-20. However, Axelsen’s drop shot ended the match with a score of 21-19.
This result further extended Axelsen’s victory over Ginting. From a total of 19 meetings, Axelsen has 14 victories, while Ginting has won five times.
On the other hand, Putri Kusuma Wardani stepped into the final of the 2024 Hong Kong Open after defeating Tomoka Miyazaki at the Hong Kong Coliseum, Saturday (14/9).
Putri KW won 22-20, 21-23, 21-18 in 76 minutes.
The victory made Putri Kusuma Wardani qualify for the 2024 Hong Kong Open Final.
