Jahmyr Gibbs reached the end zone four times, and the Detroit Lions won their second consecutive NFL North championship at Ford Field minutes before clinching home-field advantage in the Super Bowl with a 31-9 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
This is the first time in club history that the Lions have claimed the National League crown and 15 victories during a season.
They’re chasing their first Super Bowl and want to snap a NFL championship dry spell that extends back to 1957.
“He’s as explosive as any player in the league,” Minnesota coach Kevin O’Connell said.
Gibbs set a record of all time high NFL rusher with twenty touchdowns in the 2024-25 season. He was not only the fourth Lions player to complete four touchdowns of the game.
The running back also rushed for 139 yards and three times for touchdowns in the win. That left, Gibbs chipped in a major and 31 yards ing.
There was supposed to be a quarterback duel in this match but Goff and Sam Darnold underperformed.
In the game the Lions quarterback ed the ball 26 out of 32 attempts for 231 yards, with a score. He also had two intercessions.
“We didn’t do a lot of the things we did well this season. Sam has hit a lot of those plays all year and I have every bit of confidence that he will hit it the next time.” O’Connell said.
Lions will enjoy the first-round bye with the following players likely to be struggling: The Vikings will advance to the West Division champion Los Angeles Rams on Monday.
Two clubs, which had a final game of the year in NFL, was the first in the league history to have the total of 28 wins. This is the third time in history of more than 31 years that the top seed of a conference was determined by the final game.
