FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s performance following their 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Real Madrid in a recent friendly match at the MetLife Stadium.
Despite the triumph, Flick made it clear that he expected more from his players, highlighting areas for improvement as the season approaches.
“In some situations we sank too deep and didn’t put pressure on the opposing player who had the ball,” Flick said.
“That cannot be and it is a problem. We have to focus on this and press for the 90 minutes,” Flick added.
As Flick continues to settle into his role as Barcelona’s head coach, he aims to instill his footballing philosophy within the team.
The German tactician has a reputation for implementing a high-intensity pressing game coupled with an attacking mindset.
While his players showed glimpses of his desired style, Flick made it clear that consistency was key, and he expected the players to fully embrace his vision.
“We knew it was a Clasico despite it being a preseason [match].” Flick said.
“I told my players that we wanted to see an improvement on the pitch compared to what we offered against City and I think that’s how it was. We have done great,” Flick added.
