The Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund vs Real Madrid will also be a farewell moment for two legends from each club.
They are Toni Kroos and Marco Reus. These two legends from will play their final match wearing their respective club jerseys in the final match at Wembley Stadium, London, Saturday (1/6/2024) local time.
Kroos and Reus have announced their separation from their respective clubs at the end of this season. Kroos announced he would retire after playing for the German national team at Euro 2024, while Reus will leave to continue his career at another club.
Reus decided to part ways after 12 years strengthening Die Borussen. Even though he didn’t get many titles, the 34 year old player’s loyalty made him so loved.
Reus, who has been familiar with injuries throughout his career, has played in 294 matches and scored 120 goals.
“Dortmund means everything to me. Playing for a club for 12 years, it definitely means something. You don’t just stay for reasons of the club’s name or money. You have to feel comfortable, be in a good environment and be great teammates,” said Reus .
“The fans also play a big role. Going means knowing you won’t find the same thing anywhere else, so you think two or three times before making a decision. The fans are a big part of the reason why I stayed so long, but also because I felt needed here – that’s an important factor,” Reus added.
Meanwhile, Kroos is an important part of Madrid’s success in winning prestigious titles both on the domestic and European stages.
Kroos played a part in Madrid’s success in winning four Champions League titles, four La Liga titles, five Club World Cup titles, three European Super Cup trophies and one Copa del Rey title.
Kroos ed Madrid in 2014 after being recruited from Bayern Munich. He has played a total of 306 matches with Los Merengues in various competitions.
