The dazzling rise of DC United in the second half of the season, and the corresponding arrival of Wayne Rooney in his formation, is enough to leave the ers of the frozen in the past.
DC United signed Rooney a multiyear deal shortly after Everton and undisclosed transfer fee had been agreed in June.
“It was often said that Wayne would come here, well, that he was finished and everything, but you see he’s a player – and I think he’s been like that everywhere he’s gone – a player who gives himself and who wants to be successful.” Montreal Impact midfielder Samuel Piette said.
“He could have thought it was just MLS and it was going to be easy, but you see he’s playing every game. And he does not only score goals, he participates in the possession, he does a lot of things, he is at the heart of this team.” Piette added.
Former Manchester United and Everton striker Rooney has scored ten goals and added seven assists in 18 games since coming to MLS. His presence completely changed the dynamics of the team.
“It sure would have been good, I think, to have a striker who participates offensively, who puts goals. That’s his job, Wayne, and he’s doing it right now.” Pettie added.

Former French defender Bacary Sagna, meanwhile, he knows Rooney very well. While one broke all records at Manchester United, the other was building a solid career at Arsenal. Both football stars have been rivals for ten years in the Premier League.
“He has always had a good mindset and has always been very hard at work. He proved a lot of things in Europe and I think that when he came here he kept the same state of mind.” Sagna said.
“He did not go into retirement, on the contrary. He knows he has everything to prove, he gives the maximum of himself and it succeeds him. I am happy for him because he is someone who has been widely criticised in England, but who has always kept his head up and has always worked. He deserves it.” Sagna added.
