Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp asked his players not to get arrogant after beating West Ham United in the first week of the English Premier League. Moreover, the Hammers are not a team as strong as Manchester United and Manchester City.
The Reds won a convincing victory in the first week of the Premier League by beating West Ham 4-0. Sadio Mane scored a pair of goals and the rest were scored by Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge.
This positive result led Liverpool to the top of the standings with three points. Despite praising his foster children playing out of expectation, he also asked Salah and his friends not to be particularly arrogant, especially if the opponent defeated was not Man United or Man City.
“West Ham will definitely play well throughout the season but they are not Man United or Man City, that’s how it is. We know that and must be prepared for all the different challenges every week. That’s the hope,” Klopp was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
A landslide victory from West Ham led Liverpool move to the top of the Premier League standings. Klopp praised the positive results achieved by his players, but he warned that the struggle for the title was still very long.
“We can’t be anything other than the challenger because we have never won anything, especially since I arrived here. We have to invest more, work harder, and create even better.”
Liverpool are one of the busiest teams in the transfer market this summer. The Merseyside club have spent £ 163.98 million before the competition began.
Liverpool have brought four new players, namely Alisson Becker, Naby Keita, Fabinho, and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Alisson’s purchase from AS Roma even broke the most expensive goalkeeper transfer record worth € 72.5 million. While Keita was redeemed with a dowry of £ 52.75 million.
Klopp said he was impressed with the appearance of a number of newer players, including Keita who was considered able to adapt to other players.
“After six weeks of ing I didn’t see the difference between new players and others. Naby was played because he was a reliable footballer. He played in the same style and position as in his old club Leipzig,” Klopp said.
“He can play different positions of course, but I think No. 8 is his best in the moment, so that’s all cool. He has a lot of help from the players around – Sadio works really hard and the same with Gini and Millie and Robbo in this case. So that’s really good. I’m pleased, absolutely, but actually that’s what we expected,” he added.
